Akshara Bhandara is provided by The Mythic Society, Bengaluru, free of charge. These are the terms on which you use it.

Using the archive

You may read, search and study everything in the archive, and you may sign in to do so at no cost. We ask only that you use it in good faith.

Please do not try to download the archive in bulk, whether by hand or with automated tools, and please do not try to get around the sign-in. The material has been gathered over many years by people working carefully in the field, and serving it costs the Society money. Bulk copying takes from a small non-profit without giving anything back.

Using the material in your own work

The photographs, readings, translations and character images belong to The Mythic Society and to the people who made them.

For study, teaching, and research, you are welcome to use them — quote a reading, show an image in a lecture, cite an inscription in a paper. Please credit Akshara Bhandara, The Mythic Society, Bengaluru and, where you can, link back to the page you took it from.

For anything commercial — a book you are selling, a product, an application, or re-publishing a substantial part of the archive anywhere — please write to us first. We are not difficult about it, but we would like to know, and in some cases the rights are not only ours to give.

What we can and cannot promise

This is scholarly work in progress. Readings are our team's best reading of a worn stone, and honest people disagree about difficult letters. Dates, places and attributions are given as accurately as we can and may be revised as we learn more. Please do not treat anything here as settled fact without checking it, and please tell us if you think something is wrong — corrections are welcome and we act on them.

We provide the archive as it is. We cannot guarantee it will always be available or free of error, and we are not liable for loss arising from its use.

Your account

Please give your real name and a working email address when you sign in, and do not share your account. We may close an account that is being used to copy the archive in bulk or to interfere with the service. You can ask us to close your account at any time — see the privacy page.

Changes

If we change these terms we will change this page and the date at the top of it. The Society is based in Bengaluru and these terms are governed by the law of India.
